Discussion:
Are home poker games legal in Virginia?

I've seen a few people advertise with flyers at the supermarket trying to
get new players for their home poker games. I'm thinking of doing the same,
or at least putting up my listing on http://www.homepokergames.com

I'm a little concerned about inviting people I don't know, while not being
familiar with the legalities. My questions are....

1) Is a cash poker game at home legal in Fairfax County, Virginia?

2) If not, is there a way to make it legal (i.e. donate 20% of the money to
charity, etc.)?

3) Do you have a link for the state/county documents about this on the web?

Thanks,

Scott

I live in Fairfax. I believe farting in the wrong direction against the
wind is illegal here.

If you are setting up a home game here, I'd be careful. No idea of the
exact legality tho, but we are talking about a place regulates sales of
all hard liquor, and doesn't even consider itself a "state".

I don't live in VA... but I was traveling to Norfolk and we stopped
somwhere at a McDonalds to eat, and I asked if there was a casino anywhere
within an hour or two of Norfolk and got laughed at... lol

They were like, nope not in the Commonwealth, and being from the midwest I
thought that was a little odd, but that's the regional differences I guess
:)

I am no lawyer; however, I do live in VA, and I have done a little research to
ensure the legality of poker in the home. According to the law, they are
legal as long as the game is not set up with a rake for the house, and the
game shall not be a "regular" game. I do not know what regular means.
