This goes back to my radio days nearly 40 years ago, but I loved
playing this nice vocal and piano arrangement by Sergio Mendes &
Brazil 66. The title of the song (in spanish) is: "Mas Que Nada".

I always wanted to know the lyrics (in english) for this song. I
would be very grateful for a translation from anyone who is fluent in
spanish. (I understand that Sergio Mendes still performs to this day
and is very popular in Latin America. He's certainly a good
musician.)

Google "mas que nada lyrics", then copy them to "translate.google.com" and
click spanish -> english.

I always wanted to know the lyrics (in english) for this song. I
would be very grateful for a translation from anyone who is fluent in
spanish. (I understand that Sergio Mendes still performs to this day
and is very popular in Latin America. He's certainly a good
musician.)
To begin with, it's not Spanish, it's Portuguese. They're very close
but dissimilar enough.

I'm familiar with the version by Jorge Ben which is awesome.

Alas, a web search revealed no English translation, and I know of no
one who speaks Portuguese.

(Well, come to think of it, I know several people who are Portuguese
natives, but, alas, they live in Portugal.)

But, yes, a very good song.

Nonetheless, I am a patient man, and I fed the lyrics, a verse at a
time, through my Apple Dashboard Universal Translator widget and came
up with the following, slightly cleaned up:

But That Nothing
It leaves my front
That I want to pass
Therefore the samba is livened up
And what I want is to samba

This samba
That is mixing of maracatu Samba
Of Old Black color Samba
of Tutú.
Black color.

But That Nothing
A samba as this so legal
You do not go to want
That I arrive in the end

Ô But That Nothing!
Ô But That Nothing!
Ô But That Nothing!
Ô But That Nothing!
This samba is gostoso
This dance is of the nothing

The translator seemed to get hung up on "maracatu" and "gostoso." My
guess is that "maracatu" probably refers to maracas (the instrument).
I have no guess for "gostoso." That word did not show up in the Sergio
Mendes lyrics, though I suspect the Mendes version I saw was
abbreviated and incomplete.

Other than that, you can easily see that the words are quite
substantive and important. Very, um, samba-ish.

I bet you regret asking.

I am Brazilian (Portuguese is my mother language).

Gostoso, literally, means delicious. However, in this case it means
nice/good to listen/hear.

Maracatu is an Afro-Brazilian performance genre (music), not maracas
like you said.
