I'm wondering who has been posting the longest
on Rec.Gambling.Poker. A lot of good people
have come and gone - some lost interest, some just
moved to a new table and others have passed away.
R.I.P. I'm always glad to hear from from some of
the senior posters or to learn what happened to them.
I believe I've been posting here since about 1998. I
remember I was playing in Atlantic City and some
of the players were talking about a "poker news group".
When I got home I looked it up, logged in and
am still here.
How about you?
Irish Mike
Since about 1994, before the rec.gambling split
I forgot about the split. Was that rec.gambling vs 2+2?
Irish Mike
I don't think so. There was too much traffic, so it broke into poker, craps and some others.

Talking of splits, you two could do RGP a favor and form rec.gambling.sayred.

I first started using the internet in 2001, and I think it was 2002 when I first posted here; which was the first time on Usenet.

Originally, as a way to get experience using the internet, I just "looked up" things that I'm interested-in: and that idea caused me to arrive at a poker group; the fact that WebTV had a native (built-in) version of a Usenet newsreader made finding RGP a quick and easy process.

WebTV was amazing. It was an app of the internet; or call it an "internet app," which was far ahead of its time. And within this app, was a newsreader app. It was no frills though, and had no "quote" feature; which was actually a benefit in that posts on a thread didn't come with those endless, unnecessary "back-quotes:" they came Pre-trimmed.

An interesting thread. I am keeping the "back-quotes" because this may
be the only thread left that has any chance of being memorable.

I am surprised at how good your memory is about time and the internet.

I was working with ARPA (before the D got added) and that stuff that
became the internet was very important in the early 1970's.

I hope everyone that checks in will add some additional flavor to an old
thread that has some promise of being really interesting.

For those who have forgotten -

The U.S. Advanced Research Projects Agency Network (ARPANET) was the
first public packet-switched computer network. It was first used in 1969
and finally decommissioned in 1989. ARPANET's main use was for academic
and research purposes.

Right about the same time as you. I think I started lurking around 1997 but
didn't actually post anything until 98 or 99. My recollection is that Paul
was already here before me, Norfolk, Vanek, I don't know about BillB but I
think he's been here longer than I have.

Certainly a small club we have now.

I don't remember my date, but a number of us played PokerStars and then would come here to discuss

I still humbly believe the greatest troll in RGP history was me not paying Beldin his $2. They were still obsessing over it more than a decade after the fact. lol

I am 78 about to be 79 and I do not know if I am the "oldest" of the old
or NOT. I really enjoyed this group and I apologize for ever being just
one more old curmudgeon. We had plenty on this wonderful site.

How have you been? Hope you are doing great and do indeed have a
wonderful life. Maybe we can get this group kicked back to have good
discussions.

Dianne and I are on a poker cruise in March (Card Player Cruises) ...
just a week out of Galveston. We really miss our poker group. It will
be our 67th cruise ... about half of all of them are CPC cruises. Lots
of fun and great poker ... games and tournaments. Something for
everyone. A if you "partner" or guest does not play, they always have
lessons available and a small game for the really old folks.

It will be good to beach and see the sloths and monkeys.

I'll look into those Card Player Cruises. I've been meaning to try that but
somehow never do or just forget about them. Any good tips or tricks about
cruises? I've never been on one. How much are they?

I would truly love playing aboard one of those ships. It's like our strip casinos. tourists, in a hurry, and betting on just about anything. Us locals - who have the time - letting them 'hurry....'

Jerry, you would not like anything at all about casinos on ships. All
are quite different than land based casinos. If there are any poker
games, they are almost OK but are boring at best.

CPC takes over the conference center on the ship and usually have seven
or eight tables (the last cruise had 0ver 20 tables, but that was a
really big ship). Any game wanted by a table full of players will be
spread. Usually there is one or two low limit games and several higher
limit games available. It depends on who want to play what. There are
beginner lessons available and a table for them. No limit Holdem and
Omaha are also available. But many CPC folks are regulars (like my wife
and I) and many others are quite experienced. Linda Johnson (the first
lady of poker) (an owner of CPC) is on every cruise. She is a pleasure
to know and to play with. [She is a very good poker player.]

Do think about a cruise. Check out the CPC website.

Well, you popped my bubble. I yield to your experience in this. We (a group of us local racquetball player). Usually go to the Strip and sit in on Weekend tuurists that are always in a hurry. "We strok their ego with, "Oh, man, that was so close..."

I have lots of tips about cruises ... but everyone is different and
wants or expects different things. There are a lot of web sites that
talk about cruising and different people say different things about
everything. Dianne and I love CPC cruises because we love cruising and
love playing poker with really great people. I think there are 200 of
us on the March 10 cruise out of Galveston ... we cannot wait. I am
hopeful that I can regain some of my joy of life when I get back on a
ship. If you do want more information, just ask for some details.

I do not remember if you are married. If you wife plays poker she will
love it too. If she would like to learn, the cruise is a perfect time
to learn from the best teachers possible. We would love to meet you guys.

Good for you, Jerry. Stay well and happy. My brother is ten years
older than me and is still it almost perfect health. I wish I could say
the same. I do plan on striving on with the time I have left.

Come on a CPC cruise sometime ... you would have a great time.

Well, I got cancer (CLL). But thanks to modern medicine, I have a pill, Imbruvica, Only $490 each and I must take three a day.

It would be cheaper, but you Republicans (that don't have cancer yet) won't allow Medicare to negotiate prices. So we seniors have to sneak across the Canadian & Mexica borders to get the drugs much cheaper.

My law partner has cancer too. It is very expensive. I have not heard
that only Republicans oppose allowing Medicare to negotiate drug prices
... I would think that Biden could get it done if he wanted to. Medicare
might be doomed if we do not get out country out of the ruts we are in.
I do not think anyone will be able to do it. Sorry to hear you are not
well and happy ... stay safe and stay alive.

Sure Gas Bag, it's all the Republican's fault. Never mind the fact that the Democrats

Wrong again, stupid Stolen Valor Motherfucker. George Bush#2 took $3 million in bribes from Big Pharma (Documented) to prevent Medicare from negotiating drug prices. Medicare must pay whatever Big Pharma asks. Meaning Medicare could not purchase the very same drugs from Canada or Mexico.

When Americans started crossing the border into Canada to refill their prescriptions, Big Pharma asked Bush#2 to stop them from crossing the border. Cowardly, draft-dodging Bush#2 had border patrol stop the busses of seniors going to Canada, and had them take the medicine away from seniors.

The press, the real press, not Fox News (that has admitted, in court, that it lies to its viewers) got wind, they had press on the busses.

"Bush's Jack-Booted Storm Troopers stop senior's busses on the way back from Canada to take senior citizens' drugs away from them."

Bush#2 got embarrassed at the headline and orders Border Patrol to let the busses go. To this day, there are bi-monthly bus trips of seniors from Las Vegas to Nogales Mexico where they buy the very same drugs from 10% to 90% less. Same for those that go to Canada.

(Last year, Forbes magazine article pointed out how the Pharmaceuticals produced 22 new BILLIONAIRS in the last two years).
There are three pharmaceutical lobbyists for every politician in Washington DC.

So eat that bitch-slapping, you ignorant, stolen-valor, cocksucker.

Why did Obama not take care of it?
Why did Biden not take care of it?
Why would Biden take care of it if he is reelected?

have controlled the Whitehouse and the Senate for the last three years and for
eight years when Obama was President.

Why did Biden not take care of it?
Republicans blocked most of it. But Biden threatened the Pharmaceuticals with the fact the government puts tax dollars
into R&D, and if they don't lower the prices on insulin (and some other drugs) for seniors, he will give the patents away
and other countries will manufacture. So he passed the Inflation Reduction Act.

Thanks to President Biden's Inflation Reduction Act, the Administration
has announced 10 prescription drugs for which Medicare will negotiate
prices directly with participating manufacturers. These drugs cost people
with Medicare $3.4 billion out of pocket in 2022.

Trump has absolutely nothing to do with Biden's non-action at the Border.

Biden has the power to do what needs to be done and no one is preventing
him for doing anything that he wants to do.

True that. I'm 84 and living the good life in Las Vegas, the entertainment capital of the word. I live in the premier community, Summerlin. I'm in my 24th year of retirement, pool, hot tub, single story, BBQ, four government streams of income and presently half way through a bottle of Cardinia and corn chips.

Well, I forgot what the plot was, but no matter, I'm good...

Irish Mike
______________
Right about the same time as you. I think I started lurking around 1997 but
didn't actually post anything until 98 or 99. My recollection is that Paul
was already here before me, Norfolk, Vanek, I don't know about BillB but I
think he's been here longer than I have.
Certainly a small club we have now.

Post by BillB
I'm pretty sure my first post was in 1999.
.
I don't remember my date, but a number of us played PokerStars and then would come here to discuss
the tournament. One person here would pay the longest lasting player $5 (to their account).
I still humbly believe the greatest troll in RGP history was me not paying Beldin his $2. They were still obsessing over it more than a decade after the fact. lol
.
I believe I rememeer that. That was a cool move. $2 buck is nothing. The temperament and, and, whatever.
I'm too relaxed with narcotics and wine, that. You know how to poke a stick, BillB.

(And it's all fun...)
